The pre-show music leading up to the band’s appearance on the stage was Barra Barra by Rachid Taha. From here, Robert goes right into one of my absolute favorite songs from Dreamland; If I Ever Get Lucky. I think this is an amazing song and it’s so perfect for Robert vocally. He mixes up the blues and some Arabic vocalizations that just sound intense. You can really feel the show is going to be amazing by the power and energy of the band right from the start. This show was the opening night of a part of a few selected dates Robert performed with Strange Sensation well before Dreamland was released. The concert opened up with the ethereal and bluesy If I Ever Get Lucky which thankfully made it onto the Dreamland CD. It’s such a great song for Robert because it’s melodic, bluesy and Arabic all mixed together. I like that he opens with this song because I think it sets the mood for the evening quite well.
