I just got back from France a few days ago and was able to see Robert and the SS in Lille! It was a great concert! Although, it was a marathon getting to the concert! My friend and I left SF Calif. at 3:40 pm on the 20th, and arrived in Paris at 11:30 am their time on the 21st! We caught a cab to our Paris Hotel, and than ran to take the metro to the train station to catch our train to Lille, then taxi to our Lille hotel, caught a nap and then got ready and headed off to the concert!
But it was definitely worth it! Robert always manages to amaze me! He sounded perfect! The accoustics were great at this small venue. He wore a tee-shirt that showed off his buff arms, and blue jeans that fit nicely. The band sounded great also. The set list was a little different, but mostly the same as earlier in the year. Although, they are still rearranging the songs some.
29 Palms was just beautiful! He sang it with such emotion. It was a real highlight of the show. Also during the middle of Whole Lotta Love, they went off into this middle eastern song and Robert was singing in what I think was Arabic! It wasn’t french, or english thats for sure. He also started doing a dance that is hard to discribe, so I’ll do my best to discribe it for you. He stood front stage, with one arm up, hand in front of his forehead cupped in the shape of a C, the other arm down centered straight in from of him waving a serpentine, while moving his hips! Very hipnotic and sexy to say the least. I’ve seen him do middle eastern dance moves, but never like this!
The crowd was very into the music and showed great appreciation toward Robert and the SS. (Although, this California girl isn’t used to the cigarette smoke, they allow smoking everywhere in France) Robert seemed to be enjoying himself. He also at the end of WLL stood at the edge of the stage, swung one leg up on an amplifier and tossed his hair as only Robert can do! He did this three times in a row, as I think he was getting a kick out of the reaction it was getting from some people down front. I know it got to me!
After the concert we gave our picture that we had of our meeting with Clive in Vegas to a Roadie we had met in Vegas and asked him to give it to Clive, but he was really busy and said he’d try. We didn’t hang around though, we were way to tired and hungry, as we hadn’t slept much on the plane, and hadn’t had time to eat anything. We ended up having pretzels and ginger ale for a midnight dinner (our first meal in France) and going to bed! All in all it was worth every second!
