I went to the concert with my best friend, and because we are teenagers we were half expecting to be kinda out of place. But surprisingly there were more younger people atttending this concert than those older than us!!!! We arrived at the concert location about 8 or 9 hours before the concert began, because if the opportunity arose we wanted to be there really early.
Later Robert and the Strange Sensation came rolling past us in their black Suvs with the tinted windows–less than 2 metres away from us. We all kinda stared and all I could see was Robert’s silouette in the back seat of the second SUV and i just about fainted. At that point we all ran back into the location in hopes of seeing Robert get out of the car and walk into the arena, but by the time we got close enough to see he was already inside. After that we all stood in line to be allowed into the arena for about 2 hours…my feet were killing me. I had been standing in direct sunlight for hours, but it was all worth it.
Me and my friend were first in line to be allowed in and I refused to listen to her talk as all I wanted to listen to was Robert do his soundcheck. I couldn’t see him but to hear his voice in person and not over a radio or television…I was in absolute heaven.
When we finally allowed in we found our seats and started shaking all over. It could have been part starvation (because I hadn’t eaten at all that day), part thirst, part heat stroke…or just plain excitement over seeing Robert Plant in concert. I’m not entirely sure which one it was. When I calmed down a bit we went out into the pavillion and I bought the Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation black and white baseball type shirt and a pin pack to add to the pin I had gotton for free from the radio station that was hosting the event. We sat and watched the Soundtrack of our Lives perform. They were really good and have actually become one of my favourite bands. I can thank Robert for introducing me to them.
After they were finished it took about another hour for Robert to come on stage. Becuase of reading all of the posts on this site I knew that before Robert and the band comes on stage they play the Shine it All Around remix, so once they started playing that I got all excited. However, they must have played it a good 5 times before they came on stage.
Once they did come on stage, it took a couple more minutes before Robert came onstage, and once he did I was so overwhelmed I started crying. The tears were just running down my face–along with my mascara and eye makeup. I looked like a wreck–or one of those teenage girls from back in the 60s who went crazty when they saw the Beatles. My friend just laughed at me.
During the concert me and my friend stood the entire time–singing along to every song and dancing. Some people took the opportunity to sit down or go get more beer when Robert sang his solo work, which really upset my friend and me. We wouldnt have cared if Robert and the band had just sung their own songs from the past two albums, but it was great to hear songs like “When the Levee Breaks” which is my all time favourite Zeppelin song.
The music was great. Robert sounded unbelievable. Clive was unbelievable–as was everyone else of course.
Robert talked a lot and my favourite part was when someone threw a bra on stage and Robert picked it up The look on his face was absolutely priceless.
Before they came back on stage for encores the scream of the crowd was deafening and I was screaming my head off–even though it is extremely unlike me as I am naturally and sometimes awkwardly quiet My friend kept looking at me in disbelief. And I remember looking back and everyone had lit lighters and it was so beautiful. The atmosphere was so wonderful.
After the concert there was an amazing fireworks display and it was the perfecxt closure to an unbelievable day–the best day of my life. I hope to see Robert again in Ottawa, but if not I hope to see them on their next tour
